If I was to upgrade from my 20g nano tank to a 50g (This will most likely be in a few years), and I wanted a wrasse only tank with one Blenny, how many wrasse would be able to go into it? Also which genuses, I already know most Cirrhilabrus and paracheilinius wrasses will be able to go in but would an anampses or macropharyngodon (I wouldn’t do one of each since the pods probably wouldn’t be able to sustain them both)

Welcome to the addiction my friend!

We’ll be able to help you better if you could provide the tank dimensions and compile a list of species you’re interested in so we can help you narrow down how many of those could work in that footprint.

So, the dimensions would be 36”x20”x15”Some of the smaller wrasse I like are (theres too many for definite haha):
- Black leopard,
- Chaoti leopard (I know these are near to impossible to keep so I’ll probably avoid it till I try an easier to keep leopard)
- Girdled fairy,
- Whip-fin fairy,
- Pintail fairy,
- Lunate fairy,
- Rhomboid fairy,
- Adorned wrasse,
- Redlined wrasse,
- Royal flasher,
- McCosker’s flasher,
- Filamented flasher,
- yellowfin flasher,
- Pinkstreaked wrasse.

Here’s a better view on the size of dimensions

I missed the first alert on this. The black leopard, pintail, lunate, adorned, redlined, and pink streaked are fine in those dimensions. I personally don't recommend flashers in 36" length tanks just because it's not quite enough length for them to zoom about. They tend to dash into things in shorter tanks.

Okay, thanks and yeah I thought that was the case with the flashers. I’ve decided I will try to get a redsea 250 up within a few years, I’ll wait till my 4’ is stable again though since there was an outbreak of something (Others are suspecting Ich)

Bummer! Sorry to hear about the outbreak. It's so disheartening when your fish get sick. I hope they all pull through!

redsea 250 is 35"= 3'

Good luck with getting it cleared up!

its an inch off but still just about the same length, thanks for clarifying

Yeah. The only issue is how if the radiant gets caught with it I don’t know if he’ll struggle but he’s been in there a year+ so hopefully he’s strong enough

@SaltyT Do you think a black leopard is okay in a 36" x 21" floor space? They are listed with spec of min 90g. I'd love to add it to my list of wrasse but held off because of the min gallons

I think that the minimum amount of gallons is mostly made from how many pods they tend to eat

^ agree with i can't think. That info comes from past belief that leopards require large populations of copepods to sustain them long term which isn't true. They will consume your copepods but they can be sustained long term on other food. Black leopards are slower growers and aren't much of an open swimmer. They spend their days inspecting every nook and cranny in your tank so having a lot of rock is more important.

Yeah, I agree that rock is more important however I think with any of the wrasse that eat pests & pods (I know black leopards aren’t known to be pest eaters) need more rock than someone would assume

Correct, I meant it to be a list to choose from.
Okay, thankyou for clarifying! I’ll probably pick a redlined or adorned (depending on which I can get first), a black leopard, a pintail or lunate (depending on which is less aggressive and easier to get)
