I have 3 drivers I got off ebay, (china) no name brand, but I'm impressed with them so far. They are 54-60w 685ma. I did indeed wire them in series, one driver per 18 leds. The leds are way bright, I mean welding light bright! I'm finishing up the power supply box now...

I know on some modules you also have the option of choosing different LED lenses to adjust the degree of light output. I know on deeper tanks they get the light focused really tight and place the LEDs very close together. Others use a little wider degree lens and space them a little further apart. What are the specs of those LED modules?

They are all suppose to be cree xm-l's but, only a few of them actually say "Cree" on them. I Guess that's ebay in china for you! All of the leds look the same in brightness, color, and size, this is what leaves me to believe they are cree brand, or they are really good fakes. I did look into lenses at first but, with a 125 gallon tank and where my canopy sits, I don't think any degree lenses would benefit me. I could be wrong though...
I have used Cree LEDs before and they are awesome. I did a DIY LED upgrade when converting an Underwater Kinetics dive light. It is insane how much brighter it is. I used it as a backup light when cave diving and tried it out when in complete darkness. It really cut through the water better than many small dive lights out there. I believe my newer tech LED light has a 4 watt module, so I can just imagine how bright all those would be in a tank. Your coral may need some sunscreen.

Ha, this may be true! I'm thinking about not even running them but four hours or so during the day, I think the four T5's will do for the rest. Now I just need to get off it, and go do it! All I have left to do is take the canopy off and run some new wires to the ballast box, I will be taking pictures as I do this. Maybe tomorrow, maybe...

Out of all the diy projects I do, I really hate the wiring side of everything. Its not hard just, very very time consuming! This is some of the wire stripped off of the old light configuration.

This picture is showing how it should look when done, with the exception that the canopy will be turned over and the leds/aluminum rack its mounted on will be suspended about 1-2" from the canopy so the 6 120mm fans can receive enough air to cool the heat sinks.

Its been two days since I took my canopy off and started converting the lighting, yes that's two days of corals without enough light! Such a nail biter! I do have the aquarium in my dining room, which happens to house one of the largest windows in the house, the corals are getting some light. I Should have no problem getting it complete today

Hope you are drilling some holes in the top of canopy to let the heat out. ;-)
