I am currently building a 54g corner tank. I want to plan out everything in advance and not get spontaneous at the LFS. With the DT, sump and 'fuge, I'll have about 120g of water. I would love to put 60 different fish in it, but I know I can't. I'm thinking of a shrimp/goby pair and some water column free swimmers. Maybe even a flasher wrasse. In the end, I'm starting with a FOWLR leading into a mixed coral setup. I'm looking for a low bio-load, interesting tank. Maybe 8 fish tops. Any input would be appreciated.

A mix of small wrasses could make for a fun tank in one of that size. I would mix Halichoeres, Fairy, Flasher and maybe a Pink Streaked or Possum Wrasse. Lots of color, personality and activity.

Some species I like for that size tank:
Flame or longnose hawk
Royal gramma
Yellow assessor
Any of the flasher wrasses, except the 8line
Lubbocks, pintail, lunatus, rubeus, rhomboid fairy wrasse
Watchman goby/shrimp
Tiger or pearly jawfish
Group of scissortail or zebra dartfish

I like the yellow assessor. Want to stay away from grammas, the last one was a tank bully. Suspect he caused 2 firefish to jump. Do green clown gobies and yellow watchman get along?

Green clown gobies and yellow wathman gobies coexist well.

Anything can cause firefish to jump. That's kinda what they are known for.

Others to consider:

Clowns. Perc or OCC, but stay away from big and aggressive maroon or clarkii.

Chrysiptera genus damsel like yellow tail or sapphire. Probably just get one.

Orchid dottyback.

Algea eating blennies.

Orchid dottyback is on my list. I want a peaceful tank and one bad story/apple makes me hesitant. Clowns always bite me during maintance...;Blackeye

I haven't found this to be the case at all. I've found them to be very hardy and without the attitude of more aggressive dottybacks.

That's the first I've heard of orchid dottybacks not being hardy.

Captive bred orchids can be easily found now, so they should be even easier.

Agreed. By all accounts, if you venture into the Dottyback realm the Captive Bred Orchids are considered the go to fish.

If you go with a deeper sandbed you could do a species of jawfish. A pearly might be the best for your set up.

I will have a sand bed, but down the road I'd like to introduce SPS. I'm worried a deep bed will get pushed around too much by the flow the SPS will need. I've read that these corner tanks have weird flow characteristics.

A geometric pygmy Perchlet would be an interesting addition

as would a shoal of some smaller anthias such as sunsets or flavvoguttatus

With 2 powerheads the corner tanks have amazing flow patterns. Place one at the front corner to shoot across the front glass and have another on the opposite back side, near the overflow pointed just behind the first powerhead, and it creates a very efficient circular flow.

Ended up getting a 60g cube. Stock list will be comparable though.
