hi all, ive got a aquamedic twin halides with 2 t5 54w tubes...last night the tubes turned of by them selfs (no it was not the timer lol) as they done this 3 hours before their time to go off...so yes my 1st ideal was check the timer and it seemed ok so i plugged them directly into the mains without the timer and the 2 tubes came back on for about 5-10 seconds and then went off again...would these be a faulty ballast or could a defective bulb do this as ive read before that some ballast come with a auto shut off if there is a faulty tube but how true this is i dont know?any info would be good...

I just had the same thing happen with a different light fixture and I found it was a faulty tube. Do you have any other tubes to check it out with?

some ballast have a heat issue when they get too hot they will shut off since in comes on next day correct?

2 bulbs with one ballast??? I think your problem sounds like a ballast. I would start looking to replace it.:squigglemouth:

Could be a thermal in ballast. but to me it sounds like a bad bulb. Most ballast that run 2 bulbs need both bulbs to be active to complete the circuit. One when faults out it will light for only a short period before shutting it self off.

I would try a bulb first.
