I have two 55 gallon white food grade barrels, the kind where the lid doesn't come off. They previously had a syrup used for food flavoring. I want to turn them into RO and Salt mixing station. I cleaned them both out with water from the hose and mixed vinegar in to clean them up. They've completely dried inside. My question is, even with them dry the inside still has a smell of the flavoring that was housed in the barrels. Is this a concern for me to use them for my saltwater mixing station? Being food grade I wouldn't expect the liquid inside to penetrate into the plastic?

No worries, the smell will go away, your barrels are ready to use. Mine smelled like teriyaki sauce for a few months.
