Got my hands on a 55 gallon (48" long, 13" wide, 18" deep empty) tank. I am in the process of getting everything together but am having trouble with lighting. I want Fish, live rock, softies, and maybe some LPS later down the road. For me a hang on the back of the tank light would be best because of where the stand is located. I am also not trying to break the bank. I know this is one of the most important parts of the tank. Any suggestions?

Take a look at the Current-USA Marine Pro. It's not going to grow SPS (except maybe very top center) and for a cheaper 'name' brand (vice black box), it's pretty slick design - fairly decent controls and comparatively low priced. Your not going to get great shimmer (although you will get some if you have surface ripples). At 4" wide (Pro comes with 2 lights) it'll fit on your narrow 55 gallon well. I have run both their marine and freshwater lights on my 55 gallon. That lower tank (18-21 height for 55) is also good. The HOB bracket is nice as well.

Current has unfortunately gone out of business.

I have a 55 and run 2x Nicrew 100W. In hindsight 3x 50W would have been more even coverage and still plenty of light as I only run the 100W at 50% power.

You could also do a Fluval Marine 48” for softies/LPS and add another later for more light.

An AI Blade 39” or 48” would work as well.

Noopsyche k7v3 pro 140w 2 and you can grow anything with those lights or 2 100w nicrews

Have a 55 with 2 48inch 50/50 reefbrites will be adding 48inch blade soon
