55 Gallon Re-boot Mixed Reef

cool setup! can't wait to see how life settles in to that aquascape. That ceramic pot totally looks like a home for a crab or something lol

I've had that pot since the very fist time I set up a tank I actually smashed it a long time ago and made my mom furious but turned out to be a sweet piece for my tank so it was worth it haha

I don't know if you are a fan of softies and LPS but they do alright if you have phosphates. I use water straight from our tap and have for years and it also has phosphates. I skim and run carbon but have never used a phosphate remover and my corals do great and I typically don't have algae problems. I also have a clam and they also utilize phosphates. Of course I am sure with a phosphate remover you wouldn't have trouble with SPS.

Yeah since the last time I've added a couple soft corals and zoas/palys not sure which they are and they are thriving. I havent started using any carbon or gfo and the water is crystal and few to 0 algae.

so I've added a few things.

GSM clown pair
3x green reef chromis
Pink spot watchman goby

also:
Full CUC
pistol shrimp

Kenya tree frag
what I think to be either a sinularia leather or a colt coral got it for free
$5 no name zoas

Now, I bought the pistol shrimp and goby to obviously have a pair and the pistol shrimp is fairly small and mostly translucent(the reason I liked him and bought him), but he won't pair up with my goby so I'm wondering if there are certain types of pistols that go with certain types of gobies like clowns to anemones, yes theres always exceptions but there are also general guidelines to go by. please chime in

Sometimes it takes a while for the pistol shrimp and goby to pair up but I think that you are right about some gobies pairing with shrimp more readily than others. The ones I heard about were yasha gobies and watchman. My pistol shrimp paired with a curly que anemone that came with it but I had hoped it with pair with my yasha goby. It never did because it likes the nem.

Just found a pistol shrimp exo-skeleton so maybe thats why they havent paired. The pistol shrimp was to busy molting.

In other news picked up a dragon eye zoas frag and a speckled BTA!!

My camera has taken a trip to the beach with my parents so I will have some pictures as soon as I have my camera back.

CUC:
12 astrea snails
2 turbo snails
~20 nassarius snails
10 Scarlett Hermits
~20 assorted hermits
1 emerald crab
1 peppermint shrimp
pistol shrimp
2 abalone
cant think of anything else right now

So, have the pistol shrimp and watchman found each other yet? I'm anxious for you to get your camera back to see all these new inverts!

No, not yet I'm hoping they wil in the next few days. the pistol shrimp has been MIA since he molted so maybe when he starts reappearing theyll pair up
