For my 55 g reef tank build I have already made the sump and I have 2 filter socks but it’s a question more for what should I have to help the tank I already am going to have a carbon reactor should I have anything else ?

Lights, Protein Skimmer, and Return pump are kinda important.

A refugium has been found VERY successful for keeping your micro-critters such as pods and worms populations up. As well as reduce your nutrients.

I have my return pump and my lights I’m working on the protein skimmer and I was going to do a 5 gallon refugium

5 gallon will work, but as stated above, in this case bigger is better. I have a little one on my 55, but I definitely want a bigger one.
