Atm I have a 36g bowfront that’s been up and running for just over a year it’s stocked full of corals and I’ve been having issues alk and etc. I was wanting to move to a 75g tank more just for my blue tang but truthfully I don’t have the room atm I’m thinking of maybe going with the 55g tank for now. What’s thoughts on 55g reefs

The general thought is they are too thin to make a decent reef. That's not to say it can't be done. It's just very limiting. I had one a long time ago. I probably wouldn't do one now, especially with a 75 or 90 being only 6" deeper.

It is possible and many people have 55g, however because of the fact that is long and narrow it is not the best footprint for a reef. I have a few 55g fish-only systems and a 75g (plus several others), and IMO the 75g is a much better reef tank than a 55g. Good luck with whatever you decide!
**To be clear I'm assuming that you are referring to a standard 55g with the dimensions of 48x13x20 and a 75 with the dimensions of 48x18x21. The footprint of these two tanks is almost identical with the 75 being 5" deeper.

I’m not planning on adding much rock really just what I have alrdy in my 36g I have 4 kids and a need space in the living room so the skinny tank would world good for me might try it and can always upgrade to 75 later
