Hello All,

New to the hobby, starting a 56 gallon column tank soon. Starting to by live sand, rock, etc. Any tips for this particular type of tank or starting saltwater in general? I am still gathering supplies such as a filter or sump. Want to go to a sump but not sure my space/setup will allow with the amount of space that I have behind my tank in the space that I'm setting it up in. Tips/recommendations on lighting, heaters, everything is appreciated.

Thanks!

I am in my smartphone, so can't go into a long answer right this sec, but in a nutshell, I am a 'born again' sw aquarist, & there's bunches of threads on how to start your column tank up. I have been accessing what equipment I already have, and I have gleaned that here, when one says "I am setting it up" the seasoned reefers will reply, asking what equipment you have. Going w/Live rock or dry or combo? I am doing a nano tomorrow and rehoming the fw fish out of a 15 column, lots of work.. but lots of fun. BTW, I plan on a overflow box, like you, space a small issue in the room it's going in. Good luck!

Appreciate the guidance thus far and the articles are certainly helping. Anyone have a similar 56 gallon tank and have experience with challenges and/or obstacles associated with them?
