I have been tinkering with the idea of building a new setup, and with the endorsement of the wife, I am now the owner of a deep blue 57 gallon Edge. This will be my first build thread so bear with with me, I hope to make it as painless as possible. Here is a list of equipment already purchased and hope I can get your opinions on purchasing more. Any advice/opinions more than welcome. Here it goes.

57 gal deep blue
Custom stand 40x22x36
Trigger systems emerald 26
Eheim 1250 return pump
SCA-301 skimmer
Eheim jäger 150 W heater
Jebao Rw-4 ( I have one, do I need another?)
Tunze Osmolator 3155
BRS deluxe reactor

I still need rock, sand, and lights and open to opinion.

A couple of questions I have came across starting the build might sound elementary but don't give up on me as this is my first drilled tank and learning all the while, and I apologize in advance. Here they are.

1. Are hose clamps acceptable?
2. Where do I need to install unions/ball valves?
3. Do I run the drain under the surface of the water in the
sump?
4. Can I run the reactor off of my return pump?
5. Can I use the plumbing in the plumbing kit provided with
the tank? If so can I put a "Y" for the loc line on the
Return?

Sorry for the questions, I'm sure there will be more as I continue. I'll let this rest for now, I will try to give updates as the build progresses. For now here are some pics of the custom stand.

Looks like a great start. To answer your questions I use unions coming off of my return pump, at bulkheads and where the drain comes into the sump. The drain can be ran under the water in the sump it keeps things a little quieter, just try to stay at 1" or less in my opinion. If you oversize your return you can certainly run your reactors off of it by "T'ing" off your return line and using a ball valve to control clow to the reactor. As far as the plumbing kit goes I would use everything except the bulkheads. The deepblue bulkheads are very poorly made and I have Personally seen 2 fail and heard of countless others. I would also get new lock line as well the DB locline is cheap and leaks at the joints. You can certainly run a "Y" so you can have 2 return nozzles. Best of luck!

Thanks Kschweer. I just sat down to look at some plumbing supplies. Hopefully I will will get the stand painted this weekend, I put a Kilz and primer on it this afternoon.

No problem. I think you're really going to like the 57. I love mine. There's a bunch of build threads on here for 57 rimless tanks, maybe look through them and get some ideas.

Ive been browsing. I ordered 50lbs of dry rock from reef cleaners just waiting on that to get here so I can start messing around with aquascapes.

Here are some photos of the tank. They are not the greatest, they were taken from my phone. Hopefully this will motivate you in the right direction. Good luck.

Yeah man standard. I love the sump, my first one and so there is still a learning curve. I'll tell you more soon when I really figure it all out.

A little update. The tank has progressed nicely. I am full of diatoms as the moment but they should start to leave soon. One thing that I would do different would be to go up a size on my return pump. I just doesn't get me quiet the flow I was looking for but I think I am just going to leave it the way that it is and buy another RW-4. I have added a colony of Zoas, mushrooms, and a toadstool, and while all have done fairly well I cant say that I am in love with the primes. Its not that the are bad lights, it probably the operator. I just cant seem to achieve a lighting schedule with a color that I really love. I believe that I will purchase a T5 soon and see which one I like better. The sump has done well. I have a small leak where my plumbing enters the sump that I have to figure out but it is very minor and will get around to that when I have time. Seems to be an easy fix. Overall I am pleased with the progress and if anyone has any opinions on fish/coral or setup let me know.

Wow! Love that stand!
Did you put shelving on the sides too?
Also what update on it? Would love to see a picture.
This makes me want a 57!

The right side of the stand was a vented compartment for all of my controllers. Unfortunately the 57 was sold last weekend. We are selling our house and buying a new one. I decided to sell it and I will start over when I get to the new house. I am considering a IM 30l. We will see once we get settled.
