Started this guy a couple months ago. 5g fluval evo with a nicrew 30w adjustable light and a 164gph power head. Some zoa, a few lps, one frag of sps, gorg, some mushrooms, and a hammer sit in it right now. Will get some more pics soon when I clean it better.

Are you running the radion-style Nicrew or the led strip model? How do you like it?

This is the light. I’m loving it. I have it about 12 inches above the tank and with the par meter I used it registered 400 at the surface and ~220 on the bottom. Had to turn it down a little bit to start.

Impressive PAR numbers. I haven't even seen that model. The one I was thinking of is called the Nicrew HyperReef

I was looking for something that would be able to grow zoas cause I kind of like them. And this was cheap. Did the par readings and blew me away. It’s not super customizable and it’s all done with a controller on the cable but for a nano or a pico it works. I have a AI prime 16hd right next to it so it looks a little off but it’s supporting my sps I have.

Thanks for sharing. I'm planning a desktop pico and trying to keep it on a budget, and glad to know the Nicrew is worth considering. Looking forward to seeing more pics of your tank as it grows out!

I had the evo 5 in my office. Was thriving with stock light! Even a couple of acros grew! I abandoned it over a summer -I am off work during summer... then took it down. Miss it but it wasn’t ideal for me as I go to office 2-3 times a week only...

Here are some more pics of it after a small water change so everything is not happy. And the power head I’m using. I have it set up to random so it goes a few seconds on and off and 20 seconds on and back and forth. Factory return pump and modified filter. I cut the sponge and put a bag of cycled media in the bottom from my 75g and then added carbon and chemipure nano. Right now it’s about half way through the ugly stage but is getting better
