6 Line Wrasse a pain the in ...

I have a 6 line who took it upon himself to try and eat, get food from, or just mess with nem. The clownfish was constantly defending her home and the nem never did well for these few weeks. Caught 6 line and placed in sump for over a month. Ending up trading old single clown for a mated pair which came with 3 nice sized nems. New clowns in the tank did well, nems were bubbly and big. I just purchased a cleaner wrasse and a Lubbock wrasse and decided to try the 6 line after adding the other 2. By the end of the first day the 6 line was pestering the newer nems and fighting with clowns.

Is this common?

From what I hear, 6 lines are fairly aggressive when older. That is why they say to A) add them last, and B) get them while they are small and young, so they will be established as the bottom of the pecking order.

6 lines are GREAT for pest control, but a gigantic PIA other than that..

They’re annoying little wrasses. It was one of the very first fish I got when I first got into SW about 13 years ago. Big mistake!

I just added mine so far its been a model citizen but it did kick out my firefish from its burrow.

Yeah, this fish was my son's first fish 2 years ago. We recently combined our 2 tanks into 1 bigger tank.

I rather have beautiful nems then the wrasse. If things don't change in the next couple of days he will be back in the sump then.

What other peaceful reef safe active swimmer should be added? Tang...

look at flasher wrasses they stay small and well mannered. Will not hunt your clean up crew.

kole tangs are the only tang id recommend for a 75 gallon.

reef iffy would be dwarf angels like a coral beauty, but can be interesting sometimes with a lawnmower blenny. As they both eat algae and both can be pugnacious about their food source, the blenny usually more so as it ages. This could also be true with the kole tang, see more often with dwarfs though.

If you like the shape and general colors of the six line and decide to replace it, pink streaked wrasses are somewhat similar and are very mild mannered.

Yes, 6 lines are terrible community fish in general and really don't play nice with other wrasses. They are best suited to being left alone in frag tanks to do pest removal services.
