I really want to purchase a 6 line for my tank - however, there is only one available is all three of the LFS’s in my area. I checked him out today, but he swam away quickly when the store associate removed a bunch of rocks and then finally found him.
I thought that these were adventurous fish and weren’t that timid?
I want to go pick him up as he is for sale for $30 but I don’t know if there is something that I am missing - are these signs that there may be something wrong with him? Should I ask the shop to feed him in front of me first to see what he does?
His timid behavior makes me at ease but I really want to add one to my tank.
Thanks!

Some 6 lines are really aggressive but there are ones that are very chill like my he is always swimming around and never bother anyone had him for around 2 years. If you do get him he'll take a couple days to settle in.

There are always exceptions, but most sixlines really limit what can be added after them.

Any fish being timid at an LFS is to be expected, so that wouldn't concern me too much.

I think they are stunning! But I've always resisted them :)

However, I'm contemplating on adding a 24x24x12 shallow reef tank, with two tomato clowns, anemones and a sixline wrasse. I'm hoping the tomato clowns would keep a sixline in check :)

Near me, there is a reef shop with a similarly sized tank containing a pair of tomato clownfish and a sixline wrasse.

That is all that tank _can_ contain, as any other fish added dies within days.

I have had a few six lines before. For me, they were skittish in my tank for a few weeks until they got comfortable. If you end up getting it, make sure you have a good cover, especially in the beginning when they're nervous. Both of my past wrasses jumped out of small holes so be careful

Awesome, thanks for the replies everyone! I really wanted him but I just couldn’t bring myself to get him so I picked up a tomini tang instead.
