Hey guys..

Any of you run a 60 gallon cube with a corner durso stand pipe for the drain. I can not seem to get this thing to run smooth. Just so many bubbles and the gurgling is back again. I have tried to turn down the pump and still does it, but not as much. The pump is almost turned down all the way. The pump is rated for 608GPH when turned all the way up... Can any on post pictures of there plumping setup for a Corner durso setup.

This is the pump I have.
Aqueon QuietFlow Submersible Utility Pump 2300 AQ2300

I dont think I should be turning it completely down, which then would rate it at 317GPH

Thank you,

A durso only stops the was sucking noise on the top side of the tank.
If you really want to stop the gurgling you need to get a gate valve on the bottom drain hose and SLOWLY close it until u see the bubbles Slow down or stop.
Make sure you watch ur tank water level if u close it to much ur overflow won't let water flow down as fast as ur pumping it up and then ull flood the top of ur tank...it's a delicate balance but once u get it, it will be quite.

MAKE SURE YOU GET A TRUE GATE VALVE. not a ball valve I see people use ball valves all the time. It sucks bc a gate valve cost more but a gate valve is intended to allow you to fully control how much goes thought it. Ball valves are suppose to be for on off applications.

Good luck

I wanted to put a gate valve but I'm worried about something clogging it.. I might as well give it a shot.. Can I just put the valve at the very end of the flex tubing? and then maybe like 2 inches of straight pipe coming out of it?

I wouldn't see why not and I don't think you would need that 2 inch pipe coming out of it...just play around with it and see what's going to work out best

I had a simular issue. What I did was the following and please dont laugh at my drawings its MS Paint but this fixed it. Also Ive always read to keep your drain no more then 3 inches under the water line, putting it all the way at the bottom causes pressure issues. Also you could add a filter sock that would also help with the bubbles.

Hey buckfan.. I have tried that. Maybe I have to mess with a bit more. I believe it is called a Reverse Durso. I tried it yesterday and basically acted as a little skimmer. bubbles would almost come to the top and create noise.. I have seen a lot of success using the reverse durso, but not for me :(

can you in any way increase the pipe in your overflow? almost sounds like its to small.

I run a maggie muffler on the top and that reverse on the bottom , its silent thats with a pump pushing 700 gph and I only have a 1 inch drain.

I have not tried raising it out of the water. I would have to cut the flex which I would do if it was my last resort. I am really trying to avoid a filter sock since I do not have much room for it..

Alright so I finally stopped MOST of the bubbles going to the next chamber. I have tried many things to get this to stop. There is still bubbles coming out of the drain pipe but they have been stopped in the drain chamber.

Here is what I tried..

FAIL

I know this has worked for many people, but not me..

AND THE WINNER

So the bubble tower has been working great for me so far. All the bubbles stay in the tower and pop there. It is not even glued together yet so little tiny bubbles get through still. No more bubbles popping everywhere, or going into the next chamber.

Ill be updating later on with the result of Dr. Tim's one and only with ammonia for cycling. I am on day 6 so far and my Nitrite is at 2.0 and have been dosing Ammonia. I notice after Ammonia being at around 2 it will drop to 1 after the night.. I think I am getting there..

Now that im looking at your pic of the sump, I think you have it backwards. The drain is supposed to be on the side with the bubble trap. It looks like the side where drain is does not have the bubble trap just a single wall.

Hmmmm... not following you. The drain chamber has a slot cut in the acrylic about 1/4 down. then after the middle chamber is drops..
