Hi all,

Getting back into the hobby after a few year hiatus. I’m getting a 60gal hex tank soon. My plan is to populate with different mushrooms, zoas, and an octopus. What kind of lighting would be recommended on a hex tank that is 3 ft deep? Looking for something with clustered lights so it fits over the tank nicely. Recommendations appreciated!

What are the total dimensions?

At 3' deep the best option will be LED's. If the tank is narrow enough, a single Radion XR15 might absolutely kill for that setup. Otherwise, I would suggest no less than an AI Hydra 26, or a Kessil 360x.

I don’t know the width as I’m picking it up Saturday. But a quick search of standard hex size shows LxWxH as 27.25” x 24.125” x 29.5”. Seems like an odd sizing but I’m sure it’s close.

Additionally, XR15 was my initial thought as I definitely want to do LED. Are they programmable for low or just blue lighting? I don’t want too much overkill for an octopus, which is why I’m leaning towards mushrooms for the most part.

Yes they are programmable for all blue lighting. Most people will tell you to use the AB+ program, which is very blue and will suit you fine.

27" is a little large for a single puck, but 30" height means that light will be bouncing all the way down off the glass. And for softies, should be fine.
