Our opinion is no different than yours man. That's messed up

Amazed the fish havent had at each other tbh. Those are some aggressive fish in a tiny box :(

I'm sure the water is high in nitrates and fish can survive some pretty crazy high numbers though I doubt it is good for their long term health.

Giant fish in a tiny box like that makes for an ugly looking unatural tank

Dang that’s some big fish. You can see the ragged tail on one of the hippo tangs.

I remember when this was happening so often after “finding Nemo” came out that my LFS would ask you what size tank you had if you were inquiring about a Hippo Tang.

It hurts my heart,

Wait, I am confused...he never added salt until now....never does water changes...no sump......there is no way those fish are alive in that tank for that long. The nitrate levels alone would have killed them long ago. I am not sure I am believing the story lol.

How long has it been this, this way?

+1 on above water Waters said.

that over the course of a month Salinity would be in the 1.03x's

I believe your story but I dont think the tank been this way for very long

Tail fin on the top Hippo pretty nipped at.....if you look closely

Yellow seems nipped at all along the back fins as well.

Not everyone feels the same about caring for thier pets. Sad if he has a change of heart when they start dying instead of beforehand.
You need a license to drive or get married but you can crank out kids or get pets with no thought of caring for em

Those white patches on the head aren’t good. Head and lateral line erosion is a certainty. The fish will scar up. I can’t imagine that to not be painful.

yuppp thats right bro!!!

He used to add some salt buffer,

I think he added the salt water to set it up and then topped off with tap water!

Never QT the fish,

I have nooooo idea how they are alive, every time i say some, his reply is “the fish are alive for over a year”

I think your friend is pulling your leg. I think he is doing some kind of minimal water mgmt. At least topoff water and a dang good skimmer.

I know with my 180DT with 280g water volume, I rarely do WCs bc my skimmer runs very very wet, like bubbling over 1-2 gals a day. Btwn skimmer water loss and water evap I replace water with RODI and adjust salinity 2x a week with small amts of new salt drymix to keep water pegged at 1.024. I adjust in small increments. I also have a boatload of chaeto growing under pink grow lights keeping NO3 nearly 0. If I did 20% water changes I think I would disturb the tanks balance. I have ZERO SPS which makes water quality mgmt soooooooo much easier

.

I can’t imagine your friend feels any compassion for fish or animals in general. He needs his tank license revoked
