2020 doesn’t let up! I’ll preface this vent session by acknowledging things could be so much worse than they are, and I realize that, just wanting to get it off my chest!
I have had so many problems this year with my tank. It started by some briopsis spreading, followed by gha, and then came the Dino’s (school kicked up a notch or two, and as an ICU nurse, the pandemic consumed my job and required some OT, all of which meant less time for tank maintenance). Lost all my sticks, most of my euphylia, my nems, my scoly, and most of my wilsoni. At that point, I pulled all my coral into a separate frag tank (nothing fancy, just mp10 and water changes) and things started to recover. My gold hammer showed new life, some nice frogspawn was starting to look better, and under the shallower light, my jawbreakers started getting some great colors. Even the wilsoni seemed like a small section that budded off would make it. I kept the main tanks up to house the fish still in the system, with plans to condense it all into a proper frag tank that would remain setup while my new tank was built (because when disaster strikes, you use it as an excuse to upgrade!). Things were going Mostly according to the plan that I would get things going even better when I finish grad school in December. Then Utah got a crazy windstorm. Gusts in some places above 100 mph. Not sure what hit my place, but it was probably 60-70 Mph based on the radar. Knocked my power out at 6 am on Tuesday. That was roughly 60+ hours ago. Still no power. I’ve been manually stirring the tanks whenever I walk by, and had alternated an air pump between the tanks until the battery died this morning and I had to go back to work tonight. Fish seem to be hanging on, But I think I’ve lost a few heads of frogspawn and zoas, once lights are up I’ll know the full damage of what doesn’t re-open. Feel like this was not the year of the tank! On a positive note, the new tank should be finished sometime this month, and once January hits I will be free to upgrade that part of the system. If my tanks didn’t provide such a good outlet for my stress (when not creating new stress!), I can see why people throw in the towel. Reefing is not for the weak hearted!
Anyway, rant over-here’s to looking forward to a new tank in the new year!

There’s a grim excitement in these phases though. Gear and buckets everywhere, bubbling tanks, grand visions of the resurrection, full mad scientist mode:)

Sorry to hear...my central air broke out when I was out of town and the tank got to 90s...and well I am still waiting to see what all I am going to lose.

I guess for your next tank...invest in some long lasting battery backups for powerheads!

The next time I see a used chiller for sale local...I am grabbing it.
