I’m about to setup a 60g cube.

I have a single MP10.

Would it be best to get another MP10 or similar flow pump? Or should I look at a MP40 or similar similar flow pump?

Your exact flow needs will depend greatly on what animals you are keeping, your aquascape, and your personal preference. That being said, generally, two pumps are better than 1 because this provides redundancy more even dispersed flow, allows for multi-directional flow patterns, and is less likely to suck in small fish. There is obviously a point where having 6 pumps or more can be a headache and sticking to 2-3 larger pumps makes sense. 2 MP10s or 2 MP40s would be my choice depending on the factors I listed.

Montiman, would you recommend having a combo MP10/MP40 or keeping them matched?

I know it will be a while before I add corals or fish to the tank, but will most likely have smaller fish/shrimp/mixed corals.

I remember putting a single apex wav in my 180 planted tank (on the lowest setting) and it ripped most of the plants up. So don’t want to get in the same situation with this tank.

2 MP10s is awesome for a 60g cube. I ran my 50g cube on them for a while. Then I needed money for some very unplanned items and sold them. I tried loads of different pumps before returning back to MP40s and they were just too big for a 2*2 tank

I appreciate all the quick responses. I’m like 99% sure on the (2) MP10s

I'd say you need 2 MP 10's minimum.

I am planning on (2) pumps, just debating on if I’ll be happy with (2) 10’s (or similar) or if the 40 (or similar) will be too much flow/cause damage or some how negatively effect the MP10.

I’m already spending more then I planned…so if I’m going to get in trouble…I only wanna do it once.

I have seen beautiful tanks around your size with 22 MP10s. SpectraPure RO had a beautiful 75 gallon tank in their lobby for years with 2 MP 10s but it was an LPS and Softie tank. For Hardcore SPS 2 MP40s and 1 MP40 with 1MP10 would be somewhere in the middle. You really got to know what you want. If you are a beginner and you don't know for sure yet I would do 2 MP10s. You can always add more and I think you will be happier spending more money on corals.

I'm running 2 Nero 3's in my 60 cube (about 50%) and with the 2 inlets from the return pump that's all I need. If I was going to do anything different I would maybe add a third Nero. You cant just turn up the flow because it will beat everything up and push the sand all around. The smaller bodied PH's also fit the tank better. Stick with the MP10's.
