Hello everyone!
First off, I'm new to the saltwater hobby, though I've been planning my tank for years. I just graduated college and got settled into my house so it is time to FINALLY get my reef started. I'm posting to get feedback and advice from you guys and my tank develops.

The Tank: It's 48"x 12"x 20", narrow and tall but I got a good deal on it and it's worked out so far. Because it and the stand are more narrow there isn't any room for a sump, I tried :(, so I'm using a Fluval 70 aquaclear for mechanical filtration. I have 60 lbs of dry rock and 50lbs of live sand. I have a 300Watt heater. Lighting is currently stock fluorescent but I'm planning on upgrading before putting any corals in.

So for the first several months it will be FOWLR. I'm using RO/DI water so no concerns there. So down the road, I will be adding powerheads, sooner than later, HOB Protein Skimmer, and upgrading lighting. As far as lighting goes, I'd like to add LEDs, but I'm not sure they are worth the $$ yet. Do any of you have suggestions for these upgrades? I'd like quality but reasonably priced.

There are only a few fish I definitely would like, again I'm looking for advice on your experiences with these fish as well as if these are good combos.
1)Flame Angel as my focal point fish.
2)Purple Firefish
3)Clownfish Pair.
I'd like to add at least one more fish if it's practical but I'm not sure which one yet. I want a blue fish so maybe a chromis? I'm not sure which corals I'll end up with but until I upgrade lights they aren't really a main concern right now anyways.

Once the tank is filled up I'll post some pics and parameters! And again, I'm open to advice on anything!

Here is a pic of the tank so far. The sand has settled and it's looking good. So far the parameters are at 0, so I put a piece of fish in there to start the cycle. I may get some BioSpira next time I'm in town, not sure yet.
