This weekend I ordered a Marineland 60g reef ready cube from the LFS. Doing some digging I found that the overflow is rated at 700gph. My plan for a return pump was to use an Eheim Compact + 2000. It has controllable flow from between 265gph - 538 gph. I already have the pump and would prefer not to have to buy another, but it is what it is.

Please let me know if you guys believe this will be enough pump for the job. I have an MP10 and WP25 for current within the tank, I just need the return pump sized appropriately.

Thanks!

what is your skimmer pump rated for? I try to match the return pump flow to the skimmer pump.

I would think that it would be fine. At it highest setting it will probably give you 300gpm at 4'. That would be 5x turnover which should be fine.

Well...I'm not sure yet to be honest with you...I ordered this tank after my original 38g build fell through. I spec'd an ASM Mini-g, SCA 301 and a CAD Lights PLS-100 as options for "Santa" to pick up for a Christmas gift. My mother-in-law already picked up the skimmer, but I have no idea of which model...

My next worry is that the skimmer is going to be underrated for the tank, but the sump footprint (10g tank) really restricts options. We will cross that bridge next...

I just set my 60 up and am running two pumps. At first the mag 5 was all the drain could handle but I needed the mag 2 for surface break in my situation. With both running the drain could not keep up. I throttled the 5 back some and teed off for a future reactor and works well
