I wouldn't pay that much just on principal. I think they are gouging you.

Principle of what? Define gouging.

OP - maybe consider a Scopas. Yellows are only available via captive programs or from fellow hobbyist. Biota's are a reasonable price. I understand Canada conversion and it is higher than what we are used to from the wild sourced.

Gas used to be $0.75 cents a gallon when I started to drive. The good news is that you will be able to watch the tang grow as your display matures. And if you maintain a healthy reef, feed it well, it will be with you your entire life in the hobby. They can live a good long while.

Edit: sounds like you found a YT from a fellow hobbyist - that is good.

Many years ago, I wrote/said that if the Yellow tangs are not common, many people would pay a huge amount of money for one. That turn out to be true these days.

Wow, Petco in MD had Biota Yellow Tangs two weeks ago for $139. I left with one of them. They still have one.

$650 for a yellow fish, in a tank already full of yellow fish. Hard pass.

In USA Hobbyist can buy direct from Biota, they are $165 direct from biota for smalls. They used to be closer to $110, not sure when biota started raising the prices -_-

I’m in Canada.

I didn’t buy the 650$ tang. I bought a 5+ year old rehome for 380$.
You live in all of Canada Lol do you know Dave from Canada? He’s friends with Mike…

Kidding aside, Canada is a very large body of land, can you narrow it down? Depending on where you live, I may have suggestions for you that won’t cost you a ridiculous $700 for a tang…..

I’m from Quebec, but as mentioned I already bought a yellow tang. ;-)
