I wonder, did anyone tried, or is it advisable to use led floodlights as suplemment lighting for reef tanks?

I know its probably stupid idea, im waiting for third light, and ill be waiting much longer than i want to, so i wonder, can i use flood light leds, 6500k, 20w just to suplemment main led lights, primary for corners, i can tolerate whiter lights, main concern is coral health?

Back in days it was normal to use 6500k bulb paired with some blue, my first reef was run with sylvania daylight +sylvania coral star lamp, and everything was ok....

But, not sure for led floodlights..

Any toughts?
Tnx!

While not a flood light, I use 6500k T5s over a few things... fuges and even some coral. The spectrum is great for the corals, just not always great for the reefer, although many things look really good under 6500k still.

Make sure that they are not too focused like a spotlight.

Most cheap led floods are 120 degrees..
And most have, at best 80 cri so poor color rendition overall.

Agree with the above. Provided the spread and par isn't excessive, I don't see how this is much different than supplementing with an add on strip. I wouldn't go too crazy as algae love a whiter spectrum and if it's too strong you could cause an algal bloom. But certainly many lights in the hobby (Neptune Gro for example) can be replaced with a far cheaper module that provides the intended results.

No, i thinked and thinked, but then i found blackbox for super cheap, so i buy one....

Now i have enough light and spread, so really no need.....

That's cool I'm considering trying some instead of mh to add some white to my 400g I've got leds over it now but I'd really like some daylight look
