Hello, I wanted to start a thread for documenting my new tank build as well as update my progress. Feel free to make recommendations or give advice. I appreciate any and all input.

Equipment:
Tank: 65gal glass 18.4 in L x 36.4 in W x 25 in H
Filtration: Fluval FX 4
Lighting: TBD (probably 2 Kessil A360X’s)
Flow: IceCap 3K Gyre
Temp: Finnex TH-03005 w/ Inkbird tstat

Substrate: 60lbs Carib Sea Arag-Alive
Rock: 70lbs Carib Sea Moani

I recently started cycling the tank using Dr. Tim’s ammonia and One & Only. I will update with progress as I go.

My 2 suggestions would be either request this post moved to member tanks for a build thread, or repost this there.

Also if you are using a canister, I would remove any media or mechanical filtration and just let it push water.

Other than that looks good so far.

Thanks. I’m not sure how to request to have it moved, if you could let me know I will do that.

I didn’t have room for a sump unfortunately. In the canister is the foam inserts and bio media (ceramic cylinder). Should I remove the foam? If so, do you recommend re-starting the cycling process? So far I have added the Dr. Tim’s ammonia and one & only a few days ago, and my ammonia seems to be hanging at 1ppm, nitrites 0, and nitrates about 10. I have been taking regular measurements and have not seen any nitrites yet, but I’ve heard that’s not unusual.

Normally we would say make slow changes, so that would mean pull a little out at a time, handful of ceramics, pad, but since you are just set up maybe it would be no big deal to just pull all that stuff.

Those are best for FW systems, not salt, both can end up raising nitrates.

I would just begin a build thread in member tanks, you'll get advice along the way and it won't just drop off from sight
