7 Month tank Diatoms?

Another should i be concerned moment. I've got a pretty good carpet of what I assume to be diatoms. Is this an issue?

Also some stringy ugly green I can't seem to shake (but it does brush off pretty easy) should I burn it down?

That’s Cyanobacteria, increase flow.

Looks like you’ve got cyano... you have a couple of option.

-increase flow
-water changes
Chemi-clean

One of the easiest algae’s to beat. Good luck.

Oh snap, sands too fine to increase flow any lower :'( extensive water changes it looks like. So the purple sand is cyano

It can appear on rocks as well and it’s not always purple. It can be red, brown, or green. Typically red or purplish though. You can tell by the way it clumps on the sand and is kind of fuzzy. Also it blows off of any surface really easily with a turkey baster or something like that.

I've been meaning to increase water changes. Silly tank doesn't know work keeps taking too many hours from me to spend my time with her.

Indeed but alas the pleasure has outweighed the pain. She would be getting some pretty corals if work didn't demand 65+ hr weeks.

I know the struggle my friend. I work 7 days a week 12 hours a day for weeks on end without Andy days off and then I’ll get a week or two to myseld. Which usually goes to my tank! It’s a labor of love for sure.
