I made a bad batch of rodi water. The TDS is 7, is it okay to use?

I would say bad batch. There’s no telling what the 7 TDS are. Has your DI resin gone bad?

I would say so... I used a five gallon bucket I normally use for water changes, which had salt water in it before, and had 5 TDS showing. Checked what was coming out of the spout and it read zero. Could be what you’re seeing.

Ok you will get people that say 1 TDS is bad and then there’s people that use straight tap water. I would say if you live in a city I would target zero because you don’t know what additives they add to the water to sterilize that are getting though.

If you are on well water, my rule of thumb is less than 10 is fine. I know that most of my TDS bleed is silicates (I even live next to a town called Silica). Those keep my sponges in my tank happy.

How are you testing TDS?

How many gallons are we talking? You could always water house plants rather than tossing down the drain

When TDS first rises, the effluent can have much higher levels of ammonia (and silicate) in the water than the incoming tap water does.

That is because the DI accumulates these and all ions. Then when it is "full", easier to bind ions (such as sodium and chloride) displace the collected but hard to hold ions on the DI (such as ammonia and silicate).

I had a batch of limewater (kalkwasser) that I made from water with a depleted DI, and it stank of ammonia.

5 gallon bucket. I have two different digital tds testers. I pulled the trigger and put the water in. After a few days everything seems fine.

I would think the bucket is worth more money than the water in it.

Water the plants and start over...

depends on how much to be honest heck nah unless it was super high I would throw some gfo or polyfilter run it over night retest

Lol true. I did a water change with good water so im not worried about it anymore, i tested everything and params are good and corals/invertebrates are fine.
