70 or 125???

Picked up this bad boy at a garage sale for $20.
Original owner listed it at 70 Gallons, but when I got it measured myself it’s actually 125 reef-ready [emoji51]
Going to use this thread to track the progress of the tank as I get it up and running.
Needs a lot of TLC and probably should be resealed.
Paint needs to be taken off the sides as I don’t just want to look at my tank from the front.
Might be a bit of a slow burn as I just set up my first saltwater tank 2 months ago and I have other commitments made with my money but I will keep this updated the whole way through.

Yea it was a steal, I’m going to work on resealing it tomorrow and try and get all that paint off the frame.

So I’ve been cleaning off this tank and came across a potential problem.
I have a small crack in the glass in the lower right corner of the tank, any advice?
Do I need to be worried or is this just cosmetic?
I would hate to come home to a basement full of water.

not really much you can do if it’s on the front besides using sealant, but if it’s on the back you can get a quart of pond sealer and put a layer with fiberglass mesh and it will seal it up.

Not really super worked about appearance.
Just interested in keeping my floor dry lol

Yeah should be, a quart is about $60usd and people use it to seal the inside of wooden 300g aquariums with no problems of them leaking

Ok, so I’m thinking about proceeding with this set up but I’m super concerned because I just had a DIY sump spring a leak from the last chamber. Having 10-15 gallons of water spill on my floor was bad enough, I don’t know what I’d do if I walked downstairs and found 120 gallons of water on the carpet lol.
Anything I can do here to ensure the safety of the tank?
I’m honestly thinking about buying a new tank instead...anybody know a good place to shop for a new tank?

Honestly.

For peace of mind - I would go for a new tank. This is the start of a very long process, and you'd hate to have to worry about the foundation of your new project (or ever have an issue)....just my 0.02$.
