72 Gallon Bow Front 22" Tall - Should I do it?!

Hey all, so we have an opportunity to pickup a 72 gallon bow front full setup tank pretttyy cheap, 48x18x22. Includes a solid custom stand, hood, LED lighting, pumps, skimmer, 10 gal (?) sump, etc.

Also has a good amount of live rock that has dried out which I have to do some more research on resurrecting. The tank ran for maybe a year then crashed due to a 24+ hour power outage last winter here in Alaska, temps were hovering 0 degrees F. It was taken offline and has been dry for 7 months.

Deciding today if we should do it, you know, besides the fact I already have a tank running, don't know where I would put this one, and don't really need it. But I might do it anyway

Assume these are more of a pain if you are constantly adding/gluing frags etc due to the height, but I could see some cool aquascape potentials, more different PAR levels for corals, etc.

Opinions on these tanks? Anyone doing any cool things like a big anemone tank in these 72 bows? Cool tall aquascapes? Would love to see some pics of these tanks running!

Personally I’d get something that has flat front panel and not a bow. They are harder to clean.

I’d grab a 90/G or a 120/G. A 120/G has a perfect footprint.

What kind of price point are we discussing? What is the condition of the stand? What other equipment is included?

Rocks are great, but are long dead by now, you will have to cycle the tank as a new build no matter what.

I have no issues with a bow-front tank. I have a 180g one myself.

For a reef, I feel the footprint may be a tad on the smaller side. I had a 55g 48x12x20 that worked great, but really was too small for what I had in it. That tank looks similar overall. You may find the same issue as me down the road.

Tank appears to be an "Oceanic" tank. Those have been out of production for quite some time. I know this because mine is also an Oceanic. lol

With the oceanic tanks out of production, are they more desirable than the current options per say? Or more prone to things like the center brace cracking (have seen a few threads on that here).

I've always been more of a fan of rectangle tanks also, we have a 55 gal now and my PLAN for the next tank has been in the size range of a Red Sea 750 or so, but this may just be too good of a deal to pass up. Interim project maybe

. They're moving out of state soon and it hasn't sold, I may be able to get it for a low offer. One of those "I just want it out of my garage" situations. If not I'll pass, but if I can get it for ~300, I would be interested. Worst case get everything cleaned up and running and if I don't have anywhere for it, resell as "ready to go". (I bet I could find a place though

).

I don't have specs on the equipment, but the stand is solid, no visible signs of warping or water damage, fans in the hood for cooling. Has LED lighting but I don't know the models. Sump, with dried live rock in it still and a smaller skimmer that doesn't look to have been cleaned before storage. Basic flow pumps that I would want to upgrade to Vortech. RODI with ATO setup, not sure on RODI brand but is not BRS or Oceanic, want to say it starts with an "S". When I was there I only saw one of the canisters (owner himself was not around), but you know how house-moving piles in the garage can be.

Trying to decide if I want to lowball now, wait a week, or pass in general lol.

After doing some research I believe the RODI is a "SpectraPure".

Would also be interested if anyone can tell what the lights are from the pic above or not
