What I tested this date:
8.2 Alk

I need to understand the difference between phosphate and phosphorus. These numbers are correct and Im good with phosphate and nitrate.

Alk Concerns me that my hannah is testing that much higher. just need to bump it up

Love to see calcium not 300 for once. I think the all for reef and calcium nitrate dosing is helping here!

Theres some increased traces but most are there which i think is from the "All For Reef" tank must not be using Barium at all or the Molybdenum.

toss a new penny in there ,zinc and copper too low...

So is phosphate and phosphorus the same thing? Can you lower one and not the other?

Researching now but maybe we already have a smarty pants that will share knowledge

One is a lower concentration of the other I use the phosphorus hanna tester and convert to phosphates

Phosphorus is total including phosphates from my understanding.

Like Jason said, testing for phosphorus you have to calculate to convert to phosphates.

So..... The phosphorus is just another way of saying phosphate. I read theres organic and inorganic. But my small brain isnt doing well with this one.

I think phosphates is another way of saying phosphorus. Phosphates is phosphorus and oxygen together where phosphorus is the actual element? Either way, they're both a measurement of the same thing just in different units of measure. Or something like that. You have to divide your phosphorus by something to get phosphates or multiply your phosphates to get phosphorus.

I think there is unbound phosphorus and phosphate, phosphorus and oxygen. Not sure how each play in the tank though

Right i think this was the case.... I might need to ask Randy here. I saw his comments on a few threads which is why I brought up organic vs not, unbound and bound was one as well...

Phosphate number here I am good with and Nitrate because i boosted for the dino treatment.


With that said if phosphorus is something different whats a course of lowering that. If there is any and not lowering phosphate.

Lowering phosphates would lower phosphorus. Phosphates are the only ones you need to worry about I imagine. But your Phosphate levels are working for you so I wouldn't chase numbers.
