I had a royal gramma that died a couple weeks ago. She had this white patch at the base of her tail, then her tail started rotting away and by the time she died she had no tail at all. She was also flashing the sand. Not these spots on one of my clowns that I can tell. Could I use metroplex and focus to feed them? For clowns we always kinda default to Brooklynella when we see spots. Could be early stage Brook.

Is it likely the clown is infected with the same thing as the gramma? And if i use the cipro I have to use it every 24 hours for 7 days so I have to catch those suckers everyday. .The Fin Rot is the presentation of a bacterial infection. Best to treat either in a bath or a QT with antibiotics. Here's a list with both bath or QT options with a variety of antibiotics. A bath in Ciprofloxacin is my preferred application as it doesn't need a QT and the fish can be returned to to the tank.

Antibiotics
Antibiotic treatment What It Treats – Bacterial infections, which are oftentimes “secondary” to preexisting parasitic (and worm) infestations. How To Treat – Follow the directions on the label of whatever product you are using. Always use a broad spectrum antibiotic medication i.e. one that...www.reef2reef.com
Or you setup a QT to run for 10-14 days and run a different antibiotic. For treating the possible Brook for the Clown, using Metro is perfect and Furan2 is excellent for bacterial infections. Add Kanaplex and you would have what we call The Trifecta: Furan2 + Metro + Kanaplex and treat for 14 days.Is it likely the clown is infected with the same thing as the gramma? I only have the two clowns since gramma died. So freshwater bath then qt with trifecta for 10 to 14 days. What about whatever is in my dt? Can I keep them in qt for long enough to kill off anything in dt?Or you setup a QT to run for 10-14 days and run a different antibiotic. For the Clown a Freshwater dip would remove the possible Brook parasites. Some use Formalin for the bath. It's nasty stuff. But it works extremely well. So a bath then into the QT with the Trifecta. I'd treat all the fish as Brook can infect all fish not just clowns.
Thanks so much for your time and wisdom. I greatly appreciate it.Sure, lots of reefers put their fish into a QT first to treat and then to wait while the display tank goes "Fallow" (fishless) to starve out the parasite. If it's Brook, the display has to go fallow for 6 weeks to starve the parasites out.
As far as the Trifecta goes, is there a dosage when using all three like 1 on one day and another the next or just what the directions say? Thanks so much for your time and wisdom. I greatly appreciate it.
Here is another pic I took today. It looks like there are more spots than yesterday. Here you go:
Dosing Furan-2, KanaPlex, and Metroplex....
Make sure you dissolve the powders in a bowl of tank water before pouring it in! I'd recommend dosing one at a time, waiting a few minutes between each medication. If you've never used furan-2 it is going to turn your water green. It can potentially make reading an alert badge difficult but, as long as you seeded your qt, you'll be doing good sized waterchanges and should be fine. Also, you'll probably want to run a powerhead aimed at the surface of the water. Airstones will also aid in aeration. It is very important that you follow this for a minimum of 10 days, even if the fish starts looking good beforehand. Just like with humans you never want to end antibiotics too early.
Day 1- all three
Day 2- furan-2
Day 3- 25% waterchange THEN all 3
Day 4- furan-2
Day 5- 25% waterchange THEN all 3
Day 6- furan-2
Day 7- 25% waterchange THEN all 3
Day 8- furan-2
Day 9- 25% waterchange THEN all 3
Day 10- furan-2
Day 11- 25% (or more) waterchange
If you need to go 14 days-
Day 11- 25% waterchange THEN all 3
Day 12- furan-2
Day 13- 25% waterchange THEN all 3
Day 14- furan-2
Day 15- 25% (or more) waterchange
Eyes! Those spots are eyes!
Those spots look like they're going away. Is that normal? Maybe just going into next phase? I setup qt today but meds won't be here till tomorrow or Monday. I still plan to med in qt. And let dt go fallow for 6 weeks. Here you go:
