how would i go about making a stand for a tank im going to make, it would be 75 gal and on the 2nd floor. should it be ok with a 4ft stand or would a 8' stand be better? i was gonna use particleboard with varnish for a topper and 2x4s for the base. also, how should i wrap/finish it? i was also considering doing 100% pb with varnish and acrylic sealant so its lighter and i can build/finish with it easier and its cheaper i asked my great uncle when i was in california about making toolbenches and aquarium stands and he says he would use that for an aquarium stand or toolbench. the only trick is you need the particleboard to have varnish and to be sealed so it holds more weight

i am not sure i understand your comment about it being 4ft or 8ft? 2x4's assembled correctly and cross-braced would hold the weight (again only if you built it correctly - meaning common sense). expect the stand (especially the top) to get wet... so PB would need to be well sealed or it will bloat. Remember the tank will be over 600lbs when you fill it... so build it with that in mind and cross-braced so it doesn't collapse like a house of cards if bumped.
