I’m in the process starting a 180 gallon SPS dominant tank. Thank bought everything used from my local reef club. I’m having a hard time deciding on sump layout. Looking for advice from the group as to which direction you would go.

#1 below is triton like with the drain andRefugium in one compartment and the skimmer and returns seperate.

#2 has the drain and skimmer together with a separate return and fuge. However the fuge would be fed from my return manifold to regulate flow through this section.

It’s important to note that my tank has a 1500gph two-holes.com overflow with 2” drains. So I am planning on high flow rate through the drain. Right now around 1200gph seems to be the quietest.
Any input of a greatly appreciated.

I think it would be better to have the fuge after the skimmer section to avoid having the pods skimmed out. Are you building this from glass or using a baffle kit?

I was planning on cutting acrylic on a buddy’s CNC router. I want to have some small slots cut to keep algae from leaving the fuge.
