Hey everyone, I'm planning a 75 gallon tank at the moment. I have a 40 gallon right now and I noticed condensation on the windows, it is really cold here right now though, its about 30 degrees outside. Should I be worried about moisture/humidity with an even larger tank? The tank will be in a 12x14ft room.

There are a number of factors that will determine if you’ll have a condensation problem in your house….temperature differential, age of the house, type or windows, use of heavy curtains, etc.

Bottom line, this window condensation is normal for me in the winter.

And this is in a house built in the mid 40’s, plaster walls, Anderson windows. I also run a dehumidifier in the coldest room in the house (upstairs bedroom), set at 60 RH. If I don’t do this, I get condensation on the plaster walls in that room. You can also see in the picture that I get a bit of Aspergillus niger growing in this moist area of the windows. The dehumidifier typically runs from November to March, dependent on outside temperature.

Thanks for the free bump!

I don't think it will be a problem, but you could always put a glass top on it.. or a canopy...

Yea I doubt the window water is even from my current tank. My room is just really warm in the winter and the only humidity is on the windows which is pretty common.

Yea my windows get like that in my room because its really warm compared to outside in the winter. The walls and floors are always dry though so I think its normal for the windows to get condensation on them. What size tank do you have and how big of a room is it in? Thanks for posting!

The fish room is on the first floor....an approximate 11 x 12 room. The tank is a 90 gallon DT with a 40 B sump. I loose about 1 1/2 gallons a day. We get moisture on most windows through the house in the winter. Again, the biggest problem is a second floor bedroom (that is the coldest room) that has the biggest problem with condensation. The picture in the above post was taken in that room.

I dont know about condensation but going from a 40 to 75 is not much difference. You really should consider a 120. About the same size and equipment is not that much different. Just my 2 cents.. I wish somebody would have told me before I did a 75.

Thanks for the tip but I don't want to big of a tank right now, I think the 75 is perfect for me right now, I might regret not getting a bigger tank though who knows lol. I definitely want a 180 when I buy a house.
