I’m currently using a 20 long as a QT, and it’s working great for smaller fish. I’d like to get some larger fish as well, so I picked up a 75 gallon from a buddy. I was wondering what recommendations are for filtration. Since it’s a QT tank, it’s safe to assume it will only have 1 or 2 fish in it at a time, but they may be larger (anywhere from 4” to 8” or 9”). I’d like to be able to keep filter media in the sump of my DT so I can transfer it when the QT is needed.

Would two AC 70s or one or two AC 110s do the trick? Or would you recommended a canister filter?

Also, would I need a powerhead on the tank? Or do you think I could get away with a couple air stones?

Thanks a lot!

It all depends on how much labor you want to put in I suppose. With the canister you get mild flow and filtration in one punch. With the air stones and power head I would be checking parameters more often just in case.
