I have a 75 gallon tank with rust colored rock and water. Many have suggested using carbon and I will start this process today. Does anybody know about how ling it will take for the color to go away and the carbon to take full effect? There is nothing more than live rock and water in the tank.

Rust color?
Can you post a picture?

It was bought used and worked fine, I moved and started over with new rock and everything. And it went downhill when I put the rock in.

Yeah any time you add new rock, water, and sand you are basically starting over so this is just part of the cycling process. That is your first diatom bloom. Are you new to the hobby? There are a bunch of cycling threads on here if you just search for "cycling" and those should give you an idea of what to expect.
