75 gallon vs 90 gallon

I need to get a new tank as I dont like the one I have now and since this is my "big" build as I am doing everything right and by the book and my wife said it has to be a forever tank.

Will I notice that much of a difference between a 75 gallon and a 90 gallon? both 48x18 footprint.

I can get a pre-drilled 90 gallon aqueon at the LFS for $360 and he only has one

Or I can make a drive and get a brand new 75 gallon from another big store ( Not a box store) but they sell deep blue 75 gallons for $110 and I would order a Fijicube overflow and have my friend drill it.

It will be a Mixed reef, mostly zoas and softies but might venture into sps one day

Get the 90 gallon. I only read your title, but I say go bigger. You can keep more animals, can keep bigger fish, and you won’t risk wishing you had gone with the 90 gallon

90 gallon aqueon with a offset overflow, I would convert it to a herbie. Just not sure about that tank maker

it doesn’t seem like much but going 90 is a lot bigger without adding much more maintenance if any at all. I would say go 90

As a guy with a 75g, I wish I would've got the 90 to start out with.

I would go with the 75 and drill it myself. The 90 is only 3" taller and will not change the fish you can keep in any way, since length determines more than anything. I LOATH the overflows in the pre-drilled Aqueon tanks, you will not be sorry you didn't go larger. if you can find a non-drilled 90 then get that and add your overflow.

I say go with the 75g tank. The only difference between the 2 tanks is the depth... the other parameters are the same. All that extra space above the rocks isn't totally used by fish since they all stay near the rocks.

The fish you can keep in a 90g aren't any different from the fish you can keep in a 75g tank.

If the footprint were bigger, I'd say go bigger.
I have a 75g, 48 x 18, and would like to go longer 6 or 7 feet.
Extra height, don't really care.

I have both. Get the deep blue. I have the rimless. The corner overflow in the 90 is a pain to deal with and waste of space. The extra height is a double edge. It’s much harder to get into. But if your tall, maybe you can reach the bottom of without a step stool.

If you can swing a 4 ft 120 it really opens up the depth for aqua scaping. My next tank will be a 120 or 180. I gotta have more depth on the next one

since this is your forever tank, are these two tanks your only choice in that footprint?
if not look for a 110 X High. 48x18 but 30 deep.

Since it sounds like the wife is saying this is your last tank for a while I would go with the 90G. If that is the case I would go with a slightly larger tank around 125G or so.

Mostly because i prefer shallower tanks i say 75. With the same footprint there will be little to no practical difference in what you can stock. However i agree with earlier comment on a 4ft 120. If you can find one of those in budget.

The thing is I had a custom stand built and before I pulled the trigger on the 48x18 stand I couldn’t find a 4x2x2 anywhere. Now of course I found one yesterday but the stand is already built.

Once the kids are moved out in a few years I will upgrade to a 6ft tank but the wife doesn’t know that yet lol

If you get the 75 you'll always wish you'd have gotten the 90

3 inches in height doesnt make a great deal of difference. i would go with the price factor and which overflow you prefer. having a corner overflow in my 75 really sucks imo. wish i had a center one.

Sell the stand and buy the 4x2x2
