So I'm deciding between moving from my 75 to a 120 or 18p, but leaning towards the 180. I'm already planning on moving all my rock, corals and fish into the larger tank and converting the 75 into a freshwater tank. But right now budget is a bit of an issue. Could I use some of my current filtration on that tank effectively? Like my skimmer can handle my bio load now just fine, so once I get all my fish moved over could I just keep using my current skimmer until I can afford a larger one to support more fish? Or would it not be able to process enough water to be as effective? Would I have an efficiency drop in my carbon reactor because it cant move enough water anymore? Also I'm of the persuasion that you dont need your return pump to be super powerful since I rely almost entirely on my power heads for flow, but mine does up to 1000 gph. Would that work for a 180? I feel like that becomes a very small amount of flow there to bring water into my filtration

Skimmer removes excess bioload not just from the fish, but from the bacteria on rocks and sand too. The amount of waste you'll have from those alone will increase drastically as you upgrade, so your skimmer might handle it in the beginning but it will eventually not be able to compete.

As far as return pumps, nowadays its supposed to be 4-6x the tank volume, so 1000 gph should be fine for the 180.

Carbon reactor might be fine, you should be only running it for a week anyways.
