Okay, so this year I have been playing around with QT tanks: a 30g for corals and a 40g for fish.

Now I want to remove my fish temporarily from my 120DT to a 75g to QT.

What’s been stopping me?

1) Available Electricity & Outlets
2) Not understanding filtration $

Without wanting to do a lot of water changes, a sponge filter and Seachem Tidal 75 filter work great on my 40g QT and just a Tidal 75 on my 30g coral QT.

What can I filter a 75g QT with on a budget? Remember, this is a one time thing to treat my DT fish once and for all regardless of no symptoms. Do I just get a Tidal 110 and 2 sponge filters? I was originally thinking of purchasing an external protein skimmer, but the costs!

Get a big HOB filter for cheap, and use some “sponge” material in it and in the tank. Dose BioSpira or even better Fritz Turnostart 9000 and let it run after ghost feeding a shrimp.

Get an ammonia alert badge to monitor ammonia as well :)

I find the Seachem Tidal Filters by Sicce to be the best HOB filter boxes. They run between $70-$80. They come with sponges and bio media etc...

I have no problem seeding the QT with media placed in my DT in advance.

I have ammonia alert badges and have one on my 40g Fish QT.

Even if I get 2 Seachem 110 filters at say $130 - $140, any better options?

I've been using the Fluval/AquaClear 110 (the big one) with doubled-up sponge blocks / no carbon or other materials on my 40-B. When I had to go fallow in the 220, I used two of those filtration setups on a 75. I wring out the sponges in the old tank-water when I do water changes.
