Hello,

I have a new 75 gallon Fish only with live rock cycling and I would like some opinions.
How do I know when it's fully cycled? 0 Ammonia/Nitrates?

Would this be a good setup?
3 Chromis
1 yellow tang (getting the smallest one possible, although I know it doesn't make much of a difference)
1 Coral Beauty
2 Clownfish
1 Eel/Or other medium size fish

clean up crew

Is this greatly over stocked? Would I need a protein skimmer? Currently using HOB filter

Thanks so much

Each tank is different as far as bioload goes. A skimmer is always a good idea. Your tank will be able to handle a smaller biological footprint with a hob filter than a sump.

75 is a little on the small side for a yellow tang, but doable.

The fish you mentioned should be compatible, but add slowly and test often to see if your tank can handle the bioload.

Thank you! Am I maxed out? Could I do another tang (like a Kole Yellow Eye Tang this would replace another fish) with the yellow tang?
Can I get away without the skimmer for now? Or an undersized HOB skimmer?
As long as my results come back to 0 I'm assuming its safe to add the next fish?

I'm sorry if I'm overloading you, but my 29g didn't go so well - had a fish pass possibly from ammonia poisoning :/ - trying to do bigger and slower.

I would recommend against two tangs in a 75g.

You should be fine without a skimmer, but the nutrient levels will rise faster and skimmers also help oxygenate the water.

As long as ammonia and nitrites are zero and nitrates are reasonable, less than 25ppm for soft coral and LPS and less than 50ppm for fish only, you should be able to add another fish.
