For you guys who built your own stand what is the dimensions??
I'm thinking of doing a 40breeder sump with the stand dimension being 50Lx22Dx40H.

The size depends on your choices. The top should be slightly larger then the tank. The height can very by how a person intends to clean the tank. Some require a stool to reach the bottom, or you can use a shorter stand.

Ok. I need the tank taller cause I'm gonna do an I sump skimmer and want room to do maintenance. The stand I have now is too short to do much maintenance without squeezing around.

Would be possible to make2x4 legs longer and attach them to the top and bottom with tearing apart the top and bottom?

I wouldn't use 2x4 it's way over kill. you can get away with 3/4" plywood. I built mine 50Lx22Wx36H. I just added 1x2 at corners.. 75g with 40b sump.
