hi all, I picked up a 75g for a sweet deal, was going to get a 55g long but the plan was to house my snowflake eel and I've been reading 55g is too small and 75 is the recommended minimum and it was 1$ a gallon so why not. on to my question my stand is 1 1/2inch smaller than my tank and it over hangs 5/8ths inch(ish) on each side. I read up on hanging tanks and sounds like a bad idea but the posts were about way larger over hangs, would love some insight, I was thinking some 2x4 on the back and make a quick addition to the back of the stand. Thanks in advanced

I personally would just get a good Quality three-quarter inch thick plywood cut to the size of the aquarium to support the overhang.
Ive read that idea and honestly seems the simplest but I really don't want to see a layer of plywood under my tank

When full with water and rocks you are talking about 700 pounds, a glass tank gets it's support from the frame.

Probably lots of options to tie in the top so it doesn't look like an afterthought.

Right I was reading the black frame is the whole thing, and you want that completely supported

Frontal pic of your stand?

Oh yes. Perfect. Black top. Black knobs. Supported fully and beautiful.

I'm sorry I'm confused on what you mean, black top as in the plywood?

If you paint the plywood, I would use satin or semigloss paint. Lightly sand your knobs before you paint. 240 grit sandpaper. Gently!

Thank you very much, I think im going to go with the plywood and paint it, would look good.

You can use spray paint for the top btw. It will just take more coats of paint.

I would suggest finding a piece of scrap granite from an installer and covering the entire top of the cabinet. You would have a level top and the water will not penetrate, the granite will give the cabinet a nice finished look also. For a little bit more your might also work a deal to have the edges finished:)

Granite corners chip. It would look great, but bear that in mind.
