Hi guys … in the past i had 3 nano tank along the way .. but fue to move to another country I couldn’t bring with me my love for the sea .. so now im in Home and i can have again what i wait for so long!
Well i have only 1 question .
Can a Cube of 7G runs without mechanical filter or skimmer?
I will put a Mp10 or nero 3 as power head also put some clams to do filtration .. live rock live substrate and dosing brightwell bacteria weakly also make 20-30% water changes every single week .
I wanna have zoanths and some easy sps on tank … no much .. just a pair or so .. im making a iwagumi style… really clean and low rocks .. like you can see in the picture.

please share your toughts with me . I apreciate alot!

No you don't need mechanical filtration or a skimmer unless you are having trouble maintaining nutrient levels. However I would suggest running carbon if you plan on keeping zoas with sps. A 30-40% water change a week is excessive. A properly cycled tank with an appropriate bioload should not require more than a 15% water change per week.

it matters what you plan to add to the 7g, if its only coral its not too much of an issue but it will be hard keeping parameters stable in 7 gal.
If you want to add a fish or 2 I think you should upgrade tank sizes to at least a 20 gallon especially if you plan to add an mp10 and sps. A new aio cube is less than the mp 10 new and will help you out stability wise. The 7 gallon would work well as an ato reservoir for it. here is just 1 if you want to look at a couple i can link more that ik of, they have the mechanical filtration in there for you as well.
Skimmers for nano tanks arent really necessary though

I wouldnt suggest using clams as filtration especially in such a small tank

my problem is the size... i live in studio... and i really need a small tank... or a peninsula one.. and i really like the ultra clean view ... not su much fan of the black back glass ... i had but ... i want a clear one.

If you go without a hob filter, I'd recommend dosing some sort of heterotrophic bacterial blend to consume organic detritus.

i will dosing brightwell bacteria every time i do water change...

What besides corals do you plan on putting in there?
im think in a pair of small clown fish or a pair of small goby only. and maybe 1 small crab. some exotic ...

The bacteria in microbacter xlm, or at least the cycling bacteria within, sticks onto surfaces and is not in the water column. Microbacter clean would be the better choice for what I am thinking of.

I definitely would not do clown fish. A goby/pistol shrimp would be fine, or some other tiny tiny fish or two.

i have this one too ! i bought the set... so i will use.. or make a route turn about both

To control nutrient levels you might consider AF Pro Bio F...it's a carbon source with bacteria in it that's designed for nano tanks...I have a 10 gallon nano

hoo that is cool! how you dosing it? is manual? or you calculate ?
It comes in a cup with a little spoon and you just add a scoopful daily so no calculations necessary...just keep an eye on your phosphates and nitrates(I think a scoopful is supposed to be for 27 gallons so you'd need even less than that) here's a pic of the box

The tank is too small for that unfortunately. If you want to do those three fish a 20 gallon is the exact size tank you would want for 3-4 small fish.
As spare time said you could only do something extremely tiny and not very active of a fish in a 7 gallon

Your main issue with a tank that size will be keeping things stable, especially if you want sps. A big water change will actually cause a quick change in parameters like temp/salinity unless you’re very careful to make sure the new water matches exactly. I’d suggest smaller daily water changes to add up to 10% over the course of a week. With a tank that small it would be super easy. Also, you might want to consider starting with soft corals to see how they do. LPS like acans or trumpets are pretty easy as long as the alk and ca are maintained. I agree with the other posters that there’s not a lot of room for fish. IMO you could only keep very small fish in there, smaller than clownfish. It’s a pretty tank! Keep asking questions here. We all want to help!

The black back is to hide cords and the heater in the tank. Do you have a heater for the tank yet? Some corals or gorgs can do ok in 72 degrees but not all

so i can scale the scoop and calculate the amount! i will make a resear of this line of product and see what others brands have as well.. maybe they have some who fits by gallon with measurements...
i was think as well and buy some copepods alive and add to the tank.
