I’ve been dosing kalkwasser and have a Co2 scrubber so that has raised my ph to 8.7
Is this something I should worry about? What negative effects should I expect from my corals for having ph this high?

I primarily have sps

cal- 410
Mag- 1310
Kh- 8.5

Do you need the co2 scrubber?

How are you measuring pH and if it's with a probe, when was it last calibrated? 8.7 pH is darn near impossible unless you're adding strong bases.

I tested ph with a probe (8.7 ph) and salifert test kit. the salifert test kit only goes up to 8.6 (blue color) but when i tested the water with the salifert kit my sample was dark blue so i assume it's above 8.6

All corals seem good.
I’m going to leave it as is for now and take some pictures of a few corals tomorrow to see how it impacts coral growth.

Let us know how it works out at that pH.

You AOB and NOB can stop working at that PH level.

I had to lower it. currently sitting at 8.4.
my wavemakers began to act strange. I took them out to clean them and noticed a good amount of what i believe to be calcium build up.

I'm not entirely sure if this is related to the higher ph though.

yes, pH is the biggest driver of calcium carbonate precipitation. A 0.3 pH unit increase is equivalent to doubling alk from 7 to 14 dKH or calcium from 420 to 840 ppm.
