So I plan on purchasing the Reefbreeders Photon V2+ 48" for my new reef tank build (48"Lx24"Dx16"W). It comes with a nice adjustable mounting bracket kit however I prefer the look of a custom 80/20 mount that can be height adjusted. I plan on having two L brackets attached to the back of my stand but not quite sure yet on what would be the best size of 80/20 to use. I am sure the 15 series would be best but would the 10 series be sufficient? My tank is only 16" wide so I don't think deflection will be an issue. I am unable to find info on the exact weight of the light by itself. I found one person say it was around 18 pounds? Does that sound right? When attaching it to the stand would one attachment point using four hole inside brackets be ok or should I have two sets of offset brackets? Any thoughts would be appreciated from anyone who has done something similar with large heavy lights. I would also be likely attaching t5 fixtures to the Photon eventually as well. A couple of years ago Reefbreeders was posting about having their own 80/20 mount but nothing on their website. I wonder if that is still in the works.

Steve, I have used Photons for years... before there even was a V2 let alone a V2+. LOL!

The stock legs can be raised and lowered if that's the big issue.

If it looks, I get that too. Try a post in the Reef Breeders sponsor forum as well as here. Logan at RB is a good guy and will help if he can. He'll tell you exactly what it weighs. And tell him Ron Reefman sent you!

Ron, I have read many of your posts and your usage and belief in the photon actually led me to picking this light to start out with. I hope I have as much success as you have with it! As far as the mounting goes I realize the brackets that come with are fully adjustable and will likely stick with them for the initial set up phase. I may like them and not go with 80/20 idea but can't help throwing the idea around my head. Since I started researching for this hobby I find it amazing how much time is wasted in looking at all the options for every single aspect of running a tank. It is exhausting! I will send a message to Reef Breeders and I am sure I will have my answer. Thanks.

What did you decide on the mount? I’m researching he same issue.
