8g SPS Nano tank

On a funny note my wife keeps asking if the Purple Monti undata tht I showed the growth pics is bleaching because the growth ring is getting so big. She can't believe how fast it is growing. I also have some stylo and a dragonslayer acro that are starting to show new growth now that they are acclimated so I'm excited to see them start filling in

Idaho Grape Monti UPDATE

Here is a comparison shot of the first sps I put in the tank to show that things have been growing during all this

I got an order of new corals from Monterey Bay Corals. Other than fedex messing up and delivering them a day late the transaction was great. The frags were well packed and in very good shape even after an extra day of travel. Actually the only frag that looks like it may not make it is a freebie they Gave me of orange digitata. The monti spongones looks a little pale as well so I need to keep an eye on it but they told me they will make up any losses so that's good.

Nice progression shots!

Nice progression shots!

Thanks

I'm hoping to show some progress shots of my acro's but the dragonslayer hasn't really taken off yet. The green slimer I just added has already started encrusting the base so I'm hoping for some good progress shots in the future.

The Idaho grape has such crazy ridges and growth it's kinda fun to keep track of and compare photo's

Yeah, I prefer the nodules on ones like that undata to a standard capricornis. Definitely like palawanensis, spongodes and aequituberculata as well. Here I am trying to decide if I should dare put one in a 45 gallon and there you are with one in a tank about 1/5 the size. LOL!

Very nice nano, thanks for sharing it with us:)

I've been a big fan of monti's since my last reef tank over a decade ago. I know they will turn into a pruning nightmare lol (I keep high tech freshwater tanks so I'm used to pruning). I have a RR nauti spiral which I think is a palawanensis and a spongodes so I have some cool forms. I also have a rainbow monti, and a few caps (a bright orange, pink, tyree flower petal and a wwc grafted so I have them covered as well.

Follow along hopefully things keep improving and I can keep posting good pictures. I really can't wait for it to fill in so I have an excuse to add a bigger tank into my frag tank lol

I remember the pictures of all your tanks. Where the heck would you put a larger one, LOL?

I'm looking at those new nuvo 75 int I really like the 24x36" footprint. I've also considered the elos 70. I would put it where the current one is and use the 8g as a frag tank plumbed into it. This is why all the equipment is such overkill (while I love the Atlantik v4 I do have to say it is overkill for a 8g nano lol)

beautiful setup. You mentioned upgrading to a larger tank. Do you have a time frame? What will you turn your 8 gallon into?

No timeframe, it will happen when the corals outgrow the 8g or I get a good deal on a new tank. I'm guessing I will grab something during Black Friday deals and probably upgrade after the new year as I will need to cure some live rock and such.

The 8g will most likely remain part of the system as a frag tank with the main display above it or next to it. Many people add a frag tank to their display tank I'm going the other way and adding a display tank to my frag tank which I knew I would do from the beginning (this is why everything on this system is overkill for a 8g frag tank).

I will put the atlantik v4 over the display tank and either put my sbreef over the 8g or I may get a 24" 4 bulb t5 fixture if I put the 8g under the new tank. No matter what way I go I plan on having the stand open in the front as I like seeing the equipment and my sump has a display fuge with Xenia and huge mushrooms in it
