Hi everyone,

In an 8x2x2 tank - I want to keep a mixed reef with a majestic angelfish as the focal point.
However, I am kind of lost on what else I want in the tank. The only real fish I'm 100% on is a midas blenny.

How would you stock a 240 gallon, knowing that you had to include a majestic angelfish and a midas blenny?

I would stock similar to this personally. A lot of movement and different swimming patterns.

I would probably lean toward an SPS dominant tank rather than a mixed reef as majestics can wipeout a number of LPS and polyps.

Fairy, flasher, small Halichoeres and leopard wrasses provide activity and color.

A group of Chrysiptera damsels, such as azures are less aggressive than other damsels.

Are there any success stories of majestics with ricordea, zoas, or sinularia? These are the softies I'd love to keep, LPS include candy canes, chalices, acans, favias, duncans, plates, and frogspawn.

Sinularia and ricordea might be safe. I've seen them absolutely demolish eveything else you listed.

Dang, even plate corals? How about Euphyllia and Cyphastrea?

Eatbreakfast, have you had experience with regal angels? How do they compare. In terms of lps and softies?

They are pretty safe with most SPS. They are problematic with most LPS.
Alright, new plan. I can nix bigger angels without too many problems but I'd like to keep LPS and softies. So, no regals or majestics.

How does this sound for stocking:
  • Purple and powder blue Tangs
  • Potter's angelfish
  • 6 lyretail anthias
  • 2 percula clownfish
  • 2 red velvet fairy wrasses
  • Orange back fairy wrasse
  • Exquisite wrasse
  • Midas blenny
  • Mandarin dragonet
In addition to this, I'd like to add some kind of goby and another dwarf angel.
Room for more, or should I keep that list as is?

Don't do multiple wrasses of the same species; it won't work out well.

As far as another dwarf angel, I'm trying to decide between a true hawaiian flame angel and a lemonpeel angel - any factors that should play into my decision?
As far as wrasses, if I had a m/f pair of the red velvet fairy wrasses would that work, or is that not a possibility?
I'll add a green clown goby too, for my goby species.
If you had the tank: would you add to the following stock list, or keep it as is?
  • Purple tang
  • Powder blue tang
  • Potter's angelfish
  • Another dwarf angelfish (either true hawaiian flame or lemonpeel)
  • 6 lyretail anthias
  • M/f percula clownfish
  • Exquisite wrasse
  • Orange back fairy wrasse
  • M/f red velvet fairy wrasses
  • Midas blenny
  • Mandarin dragonet
  • Green clown goby
Thanks for any help,
Drew

Wrasses don't form bonded prs. Females almost always transition into males in captivity, even if a male is present, and aggression between males of the same species is pretty bad.

Lemonpeels are more notorious pickers than flames.

Okay, so just one red velvet wrasse then - thanks for clearing that up. I'll go with a flame angel as well.
Any suggestions on stocking levels?
