do you have built in tds meters or are you using a handheld? if using a hand held, what is the water in when you measure it? some containers have been known to leach some tds, especially if they've had saltwater mixed in them before.

what is your tds going into the unit? what's the tds between the ro membrane and the and the di stage? how many gallons has the unit produced? your di stage is used up. you just need to replace the di resin. knowing what the tds is between the ro membrane and the di stage can help us determine if you are using di resin too fast.

Glass cup should be clean enough to get a good reading. To measure the tds at the other points you can just remove the lines and run those into the cup for a few minutes to get a measurement. An online tds will make it a lot easier to know when to change out filters. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/triple-inline-tds-meter-trm-1-hm-digital.html
also are you letting the first minutes of product water from the ro membrane bypass the di resin to the drane? This is tds creep and will also use di resin quickly.

its been set up for about a month and its always been 9tds it just occurred to me to ask if thats ok.
so if you mean the first few minutes of the new filter running then yes I've already done that.

Ok so it sounds like you may have channeling through your di resin. It needs to be packed extremely tight in its housing.
Or it could still be used up. Is this color changing resin?
How much water has been produced? What is the tds between the ro membrane and di resin?
What is your tds going into the unit?

Each time you turn the unit off tds will equalize between the product side and the waste side, this is tds creep. The first few minutes of every use off of the ro membrane will be about as high as your incoming water. This will exist your di resin very fast. You need to bypass the first few minutes off of the ro product water every time you use it. add this between your ro stage and di stage. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/3-way-ball-valve-with-john-guest-1-4-push-connect.html

I still am unsure how he is testing tds. A hand held? Could it need calibration? To get 9 every single time makes me think it is really 0?

is this to high plan to do mixed reef?
filter is three stage with di

Yes. The problem with exhausted DI resin is that it starts shedding weakly-charged compounds to make room for more charged compounds. Ammonia is one example.

If your TDS is above zero, your DI resin needs to be replaced.

To the author of this thread. You need to give us more details. Which tester model? How old is the ro/di system and the age of components of it replaced if so. Etc.. this is like pulling teeth here.

sorry i stopped getting notifications.
the tester is a hm digital tds 3 meter.
we got the filter about 5 months ago and we haven't replaced the filter media at all.
also if this helps the starting tds is 285
thanks for the help and sorry about not responding.
