Is having a single 90 degree elbow in a drain really that big a problem? I'm setting up a 35g tank with a 3/4 inch return and I just don't think I am going to be able to get the return through a gate valve into the inlet in the sump using 45 degree elbows. There's an emergency drain as well and that's pretty much a straight drop into the sump and for a tank this size I think a 3/4 inch drain will still provide enough flow so I'm thinking.... yeah fine? This is my first set up I'm kind of stalled here by if I can solve this one problem I think I can stack up my rocks and fill this thing this week so I'm inclined just to go for it. Alternatively I was thinking I might try to heat and bend a section of pipe and swage-fit the ends to form a custom elbow or something? That seems like that might work too.
