90 Gal Cube Anemone Tank Questions

Okay so i recently won a 90 gal marineland cube tank at our local swap!!! [THANKS AGAIN LEAR!!!]

My first thought was Clowns - Anemones - Seahorses.

Now for anemones i was thinking a one carpet, a couple bubbles, and maybe a few others?

So that lead me to believe seahorses probably are not a good bet with the carpet....is this true? I would imagine it would probably eat it?

A couple other questions i have:

1. Can i have a carpet in a bare bottom tank?
   1. if not can i put a bowl or PVC pipe with sand in it?
2. Can we combine multiple anemones in a bare bottom tank?
3. Should i just put sand in it and get it over with?

I definitely wouldn't do the seahorses with the nems...especially the carpet. I can't see any problem with doing BTAs and carpet in the same tank. Saddleback clowns are usually the clown you would pair with a carpet. I don't know much about bare bottom tanks (since I'm a dsb guy), so I'll leave those questions for someone who knows what they're talking about.

What do you mean by "carpet" ? There are 3 hosting anemones that are called "carpets", each have different requirements -- including rock dwelling or sandbed dwelling.

I have tried a couple of times to mix an S. haddoni with both an E. quadricolor and an M. doreensis. In both cases the established S. haddoni started to move around the tank shortly after the addition of the other anemones -- no other changes to the tank. Things went back to normal with the removal of the new anemones (( new to that tank, had already been in my care )). So, I am personally not a fan of mixing different species of anemones (( plus, in some cases different care requirements make it difficult )), but all for having different color morphs of the same species.

What species of clowns?

And I would skip the seahorses, in time I see them being a snack.

Right now these Clowns are from Booyahs Reef. One is a snowflake clown and the other is a dark black

as for carpet i was thinking maybe a Electric Green Haddon's Carpet Anemone[SIZE=-2] -- Stichodactyla sp.[/SIZE] which looks like ill need sand. im probably just going to throw 60 pounds of sand in this thing. I might just put that in there and maybe move my chalices over to this tank? any suggestions on a good carpet?

I am partial to S. haddonis (( been keeping them for 20+ years now )), but they have a habit of eating other fish from time to time.

They are sandbed dwelling --- all of mine have had they foot buried in the sand, right at the rock/sand interface.
They aren't fans of high flow, so keep that in mind. When the oral disc starts to lift, that is starting to get too much.

Find a healthy one, regardless of color. But, do read up on Cipro treatment for them.

I would like to keep this tank as minimal as possible so low flow works well for me i was thinking about only having the return and maybe one decent power head. Ill have to do some more research and try to figure out how I want to setup this tank.

Man i was looking though your tank threads you have some AWESOME S. haddonis. Where do you happen to get yours from do you have any recommendations? Also any tips besides the Cipro Treatment?

Picked most of mine from the Diver's Den section of LA, and one or 2 from an LFS.

What lights are you planing on using?

Google, "Protocol for using Ciprofloxacin", click on the first link -- lots of info there. I personally haven't used it, though I did experience the "infection" with newly shipped S. haddonis, but that was before the treatment was known. Not all of them need it, but it makes sense to be ready to treat -- don't want to waste time finding it.

I personally have never lost a clown to one, but I have read a couple of cases of it. If you don't force the clown(s) to be hosted (( should never do that, but especially not with an S. haddoni )), I wouldn't be too concerned.

For lights i was thinking going with the reefbreeders either Photon 24" or the reefbreeder value LED's. I really would like to try the value but i dont like i dont have a ramp up or ramp down setting. I would imagine those LED's would both work. Now with that S. haddonis does it likes a good amount of flow? Like if i put 1 WP40 in there with the return that should be enough or would that be too much?

Think the WP40 would be too much.

I have used 2 MP10's with all of my haddonis, and can't run them any higher than 75%.

I haven't used LEDs yet, so can't speak for them, but have used MH with mine --- 2*250 for both my 75 and 65 (( and 58 when I had the running )).
