i know halides are the way to go but i cant afford the electric bill

i know leds would cut that cost but the initial is just far too high

what amount or type of t5s would i need to successfully grow acans and z/p (maybe some frogspawn also) in a 90

Possibly a 6 bulb T5 fixture with good reflectors. I'm only using MH on my 125, but going T5 and even PC with other tanks. PC was were I started years ago and kept LPS and softies very well. My acans didn't grow quite as good as they are right now under MH, but they grew. My hammer and frogspawn grew better under PC than MH. IMO... T5 and your LPS and Z/P should be fine.

That's what I'd do and even if in the future you decide to plop in a few sps with the right bulb combo you could keep those too in the upper regions of your tank!

I use a pre-made 48" T5 4 light W/moonlight. It has seperate control's for the blues, whites and moonlights. If you look at my profile pic, main reef, you will see a mixed reef that runs. I change my tubes every 6 months. The moonlights are LED. This is a 5' 100 gallon acryclic tank.
